06.22.05 • evening storm #3 (4)
Updated 06/24: As of 06/22, my home server is down due to a power outage caused by a lightning strike nearby! I guess this will finally force my hand. I've been meaning to rebuild it for quite some time, as it is a very old Debian Linux installation. There's no real problem, except I can't reboot it. I never finished installing the bootstrap, and was booting from a crufty floppy disk. A floppy disk that since the last time I booted (more than 400 days ago), has ceased to be successfully read by my even cruftier floppy drive.
One the plus side. I'll be installing another 200G of space.
Wish me luck.

I'm posting a few different shots of the storm last night over the next few days. There are so many dramatic moments it is difficult to choose.
Too bad I caught no lightning. Tried many 5 to 10 second exposures hoping to get lucky, but it never happened.

A large thunderhead moved up the Cascade range. Our view from Portland offered a couple hours of photo opportunities. Difficult photo opportunities.
03.16.05 • fremont sky (2)
In honor of the official end of our insanely glorious winter of springlike weather, I found this in the archives. I randomly use shots from my entire archive for my screensaver, and this one poped up on the day we finally got some rain.
02.16.05 • angry sky (1)
Stuck in traffic, I stuck the camera up to the window for a quick click. I love the birds, the sky, and patch of blue in the distance. Sometimes instead of planning out my shots, and thinking too much about them, I like to just randomly point and click. It is always interesting to see the results, which are sometimes a nice surprise.
11.23.04 • cloud break (2)
I'm running out of photos to post! I haven't had the camera out for a few days and I only have a few left on the back burner, none of which I'm really happy with. This one is kind of an everyday city shot from my roof, but I did like the dramatic difference in lighting between the city and the clouds.

This image made me think of http://www.portlandground.com/archives/2006/06/sidewalk_front_yard_budda.php ! I just stumbled upon your site today and I'm really enjoying looking at your pictures and remembering "hey I've been there or hey I used to live there!". I lived in downtown Portland for two years before moving back to the midwest a few months ago. I miss Portland soooooooooooo much. :o( But I'm glad I can relive my memories through your pictures!

Very nice image of the canyon. I really like the sky and how the stream leads the eye through the frame. Nicely done.

It's been too long between visits to your blog, you have some great images. That's a very creative gardener and your capture is fantastic.

I really like this shot - there's a great contrast between the sharp light trails on the right, and the more mellow blurring on the left. well done

Not usually Rob, but I do take requests. And must admit that sometimes it takes me a while to get to them (since I have to reprocess them).

Wow! Very nice shot. You have some great pix here man!!! I am just wondering on this particular shot how you get the lights and no cars... I see the camera settings under the title but I'm not a photographer so it doesn't mean a whole lot to me. Freakin awesome!
Makes me want to bust out my old Cannon AE-1. And I would if it hadn't pissed me off so many times! (realizing that I really need to stick with the disposable click boxes!)

I always like to see pictures taken by other people, on the other side of the country, and know exactly where it was taken.

HA! I want that car! I've been looking for pictures all morning cuz I wanna paint my combi (in four years, I'll be out of school and old enough to drive a car so that's when I'll get one ....) just like that!

He's been around for a few years I believe, but these are my first shots of him. You might be remembering someone else?
I'm not sure if he calls himself statue man, but others do I believe. I found an article about him versus the City of Portland, which you can read here.

This statue was there last year too, wasn't he? Seems like you had some pictures of him before.
Does he call himself Statue Man? I think of him as a robot man, but I've never seen him in action - he's usually just standing there when I go by.

This is an interesting composition. You've handled the silver body paint well, a tough material to photograph by itself, and the reflection captured in the performer's sunglasses has me asking what does he see? Wish there wasn't such a bright white diamond in the top middle of the frame from the crossing of the awnings--makes my eye go right to it.

Thanks everyone for the great comments. I'm glad to see you checking back even if I don't post often enough :-).
