Site News Update: I created a new theme that is darker than the current grey. It is also the new default theme for newcomers.

Also new, is the addition of tags/categories to the thumbnail page. You can now restrict the thumbnails based on tags, and see larger thumbs of the selected photos.

I made it back out to one of my favorite places to be. The Deschutes River at dusk. It was hot in the canyon today, and the welcome cool of the evening seems to bring the canyon to life. Critter time to be sure. I've seen huge porcupines, deer, a bobcat, rattlesnakes, and many other cool creatures at this magical hour.

At the same spot as yesterdays photo. I just turned a bit to the right.

Returning from the Deschutes river today I caught this nuclear sky.

As for spammers, they sure do suck. Please try to ignore it if you see it. I'm fine tuning the anti-spam stuff to hopefully have them squashed soon. If I can't get rid of them, I might have to consider more drastic actions. I hate to turn off posting on a photo, but some horrible spam-bot has the Mt. St. Helens shot in its sites and just keeps banging on me. We'll see if my latest mod takes care of it.

Just another glimpse out the window at the right moment.

Update: I've now added a cookie to store your name/email/url info in the comment form. Sure does make things easier. Let me know if this causes you any problems.

Spring sure is awesome in the pacific northwest. Our weather is constantly varying this time of year, so if you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes. Just lucked into this one tonight on the roof.

C3000-Z • f2.8 • 1/100 • ISO 100

Another guest shot today, due to a sad lack of my own shots. Luckily, my father sent me this from just another amazing morning in Baja from the backyard. Looks like the shrimp boaters are still asleep at this hour. Last time I was down there, only 2 years ago, these palms were no higher than my waist!

2000-Z • f6.3 • 1/500 • ISO 100

Looking out over the Sea of Cortez from my father's backyard, a unique scene like this unfolds every morning. No wonder they put up with the critters! This will probably be the last from the old Baja 'roll', but it has been fun going back through these old photos. There maybe more older scenic shots coming up though, since I haven't had much time to shoot new ones lately.

Thanks to everyone that keeps coming to visit and leave comments. I'm always looking for good criticism and comments, so keep it up.

This image made me think of http://www.portlandground.com/archives/2006/06/sidewalk_front_yard_budda.php ! I just stumbled upon your site today and I'm really enjoying looking at your pictures and remembering "hey I've been there or hey I used to live there!". I lived in downtown Portland for two years before moving back to the midwest a few months ago. I miss Portland soooooooooooo much. :o( But I'm glad I can relive my memories through your pictures!

Very nice image of the canyon. I really like the sky and how the stream leads the eye through the frame. Nicely done.

It's been too long between visits to your blog, you have some great images. That's a very creative gardener and your capture is fantastic.

I really like this shot - there's a great contrast between the sharp light trails on the right, and the more mellow blurring on the left. well done

Not usually Rob, but I do take requests. And must admit that sometimes it takes me a while to get to them (since I have to reprocess them).

Wow! Very nice shot. You have some great pix here man!!! I am just wondering on this particular shot how you get the lights and no cars... I see the camera settings under the title but I'm not a photographer so it doesn't mean a whole lot to me. Freakin awesome!

Makes me want to bust out my old Cannon AE-1. And I would if it hadn't pissed me off so many times! (realizing that I really need to stick with the disposable click boxes!)

The white tones are perfect. I like this one.

I always like to see pictures taken by other people, on the other side of the country, and know exactly where it was taken.

HA! I want that car! I've been looking for pictures all morning cuz I wanna paint my combi (in four years, I'll be out of school and old enough to drive a car so that's when I'll get one ....) just like that!

12.29.05 • 2:29pm • statue man #2kyle

He's been around for a few years I believe, but these are my first shots of him. You might be remembering someone else?

I'm not sure if he calls himself statue man, but others do I believe. I found an article about him versus the City of Portland, which you can read here.

12.29.05 • 11:36am • statue man #2the Robot Vegetable

This statue was there last year too, wasn't he? Seems like you had some pictures of him before.

Does he call himself Statue Man? I think of him as a robot man, but I've never seen him in action - he's usually just standing there when I go by.

12.28.05 • 6:15am • statue man #2Manual Exposure

This is an interesting composition. You've handled the silver body paint well, a tough material to photograph by itself, and the reflection captured in the performer's sunglasses has me asking what does he see? Wish there wasn't such a bright white diamond in the top middle of the frame from the crossing of the awnings--makes my eye go right to it.

Thanks everyone for the great comments. I'm glad to see you checking back even if I don't post often enough :-).
