Well, I'm finally the owner of a D70. Mila from across the hall was kind enough to pose for one of the first images on the new toy. I'm not a D70 newbie, as for over 6 months I've had access to the exact same camera, but it will be nice to always have it at the ready. Gotta go out and shoot...

Update: Mila was also featured in this photo.

I've never been a big cat person, so I treat them indifferently (kinda like they usually treat me). Of course, this means that most peoples cats take a liking to me. "What? He doesn't want to pay attention to me? What's up with that?!" This is Mila. She lives with my neighbors Paul and Areta. I wasn't going to post this photo because I wanted to try shooting her again, but who knows when that will be. So here's the first of what could be a few different cat portraits. Yes, Mila is missing half of her tail. Also, that is her natural eye color, which I let show through a desaturated layer.

Shot number two of 40. This was a lucky shot as the subject was on the move. I find it very expressive. There were two dark dogs playing and chasing a tennis ball, but their color made shooting difficult. Next time I may try some different approaches, including the flash.

In other news I've turned on the 'last 20' page, where you can browse a bit more verbosely, as well as RSS feeds, if you're into that. I'm hoping to introduce categories or searching at some point. Enjoy the new stuff and let me know if it's broken.

She looks like the saddest puppy in the world, but that wasn't really the case. She was actually quite puppy-like until I chose a wide focal length and stepped closer. I think this might be more 'inquisitive' than sad. This was taken at the Lucky Labrador brewpub, and is one of only two shots that turned out from a pile of almost 40. Clearly, I must improve my good/bad ratio.

This image made me think of http://www.portlandground.com/archives/2006/06/sidewalk_front_yard_budda.php ! I just stumbled upon your site today and I'm really enjoying looking at your pictures and remembering "hey I've been there or hey I used to live there!". I lived in downtown Portland for two years before moving back to the midwest a few months ago. I miss Portland soooooooooooo much. :o( But I'm glad I can relive my memories through your pictures!

Very nice image of the canyon. I really like the sky and how the stream leads the eye through the frame. Nicely done.

It's been too long between visits to your blog, you have some great images. That's a very creative gardener and your capture is fantastic.

I really like this shot - there's a great contrast between the sharp light trails on the right, and the more mellow blurring on the left. well done

Not usually Rob, but I do take requests. And must admit that sometimes it takes me a while to get to them (since I have to reprocess them).

Very beautiful. Do you ever post them in higher res for wallpaper?

Wow! Very nice shot. You have some great pix here man!!! I am just wondering on this particular shot how you get the lights and no cars... I see the camera settings under the title but I'm not a photographer so it doesn't mean a whole lot to me. Freakin awesome!

Makes me want to bust out my old Cannon AE-1. And I would if it hadn't pissed me off so many times! (realizing that I really need to stick with the disposable click boxes!)

I always like to see pictures taken by other people, on the other side of the country, and know exactly where it was taken.

HA! I want that car! I've been looking for pictures all morning cuz I wanna paint my combi (in four years, I'll be out of school and old enough to drive a car so that's when I'll get one ....) just like that!

He's been around for a few years I believe, but these are my first shots of him. You might be remembering someone else?

I'm not sure if he calls himself statue man, but others do I believe. I found an article about him versus the City of Portland, which you can read here.

This statue was there last year too, wasn't he? Seems like you had some pictures of him before.

Does he call himself Statue Man? I think of him as a robot man, but I've never seen him in action - he's usually just standing there when I go by.

This is an interesting composition. You've handled the silver body paint well, a tough material to photograph by itself, and the reflection captured in the performer's sunglasses has me asking what does he see? Wish there wasn't such a bright white diamond in the top middle of the frame from the crossing of the awnings--makes my eye go right to it.

Thanks everyone for the great comments. I'm glad to see you checking back even if I don't post often enough :-).
