A Halloween poker party brought out the best in Paulette, our best costume winner.

I attended the brewfest Friday afternoon and managed to take time out from the vast quantity of IPAs I was tasting to snap a few shots. Beating the sun usually means staying under the tents (which are closer to the beer), but some prefer this marvel of modern technology, the misty-thingy. Amen.

This was taken on the same trip as this photo. Looks like Jack has been on a successful fishing trip. I haven't had much chance to get out and get new photos lately, so I'm again sifting. My camera should hopefully arrive sometime soon (fingers crossed), so I'll have many more opportunities once we get into spring.

...is another man's shrine? I wandered around Hawthorne yesterday. It was a pretty, sunny day, perfect for a walk to see all the interesting yards. I'm amazed at some of the, uh, stuff, that people put in their yards. Here's a shrine of some sort, involving the Ace of Spades, a tiny little man, an orange button, a peppermint, and the skull of a deer. Go figure. Weird but interesting.

Taken at our weekly poker game, this is Brian, one of our regular crazies. Would you call him? Not many of us can, as he's liable to be playing ANYTHING! Paul took this photo, but I did crop (nose removal), and color processing. The BW seemed to match the mood so much better than the color version.

Scooby Doo! Where are you??! I just love this van. I was riding my bike around southeast Portland a couple years back when I saw this van for sale. I pondered the fate of the Scooby gang, and just knew that I had to return and get a photo. I hope the gang is okay!

Ho Ho Ho! Her name has got to be Eve. Another holiday reflection taken while I was out doing some last minute shopping. Okay, almost all of my shopping is last minute, but I think it just doesn't feel right when you buy Christmas gifts well in advance. It robs you of the adventure of fighting the crowds.

This image made me think of http://www.portlandground.com/archives/2006/06/sidewalk_front_yard_budda.php ! I just stumbled upon your site today and I'm really enjoying looking at your pictures and remembering "hey I've been there or hey I used to live there!". I lived in downtown Portland for two years before moving back to the midwest a few months ago. I miss Portland soooooooooooo much. :o( But I'm glad I can relive my memories through your pictures!

Very nice image of the canyon. I really like the sky and how the stream leads the eye through the frame. Nicely done.

It's been too long between visits to your blog, you have some great images. That's a very creative gardener and your capture is fantastic.

I really like this shot - there's a great contrast between the sharp light trails on the right, and the more mellow blurring on the left. well done

Not usually Rob, but I do take requests. And must admit that sometimes it takes me a while to get to them (since I have to reprocess them).

Wow! Very nice shot. You have some great pix here man!!! I am just wondering on this particular shot how you get the lights and no cars... I see the camera settings under the title but I'm not a photographer so it doesn't mean a whole lot to me. Freakin awesome!

Makes me want to bust out my old Cannon AE-1. And I would if it hadn't pissed me off so many times! (realizing that I really need to stick with the disposable click boxes!)

I always like to see pictures taken by other people, on the other side of the country, and know exactly where it was taken.

HA! I want that car! I've been looking for pictures all morning cuz I wanna paint my combi (in four years, I'll be out of school and old enough to drive a car so that's when I'll get one ....) just like that!

12.29.05 • 2:29pm • statue man #2kyle

He's been around for a few years I believe, but these are my first shots of him. You might be remembering someone else?

I'm not sure if he calls himself statue man, but others do I believe. I found an article about him versus the City of Portland, which you can read here.

12.29.05 • 11:36am • statue man #2the Robot Vegetable

This statue was there last year too, wasn't he? Seems like you had some pictures of him before.

Does he call himself Statue Man? I think of him as a robot man, but I've never seen him in action - he's usually just standing there when I go by.

12.28.05 • 6:15am • statue man #2Manual Exposure

This is an interesting composition. You've handled the silver body paint well, a tough material to photograph by itself, and the reflection captured in the performer's sunglasses has me asking what does he see? Wish there wasn't such a bright white diamond in the top middle of the frame from the crossing of the awnings--makes my eye go right to it.

Thanks everyone for the great comments. I'm glad to see you checking back even if I don't post often enough :-).
