Chapman School, Portland, Oregon. The Vaux's Swifts pour into the chimney at Chapman School. For two weeks every fall, they provide an amazing spectacle. I highly recommend attending if you never have. Picture just don't do it justice.

I walked around as the local first thursday art fair broke up and just clicked off a bunch of shots at f/5, IS01600. It seemed a reasonable approach for someone without much time to devote to thinking about photography lately. I really liked some of the images that resulted.

This one really grew on me. It's been sitting around until I found it again tonight. It reminds me a lot of this photo from a while back.

This one was taken a while back (the same trip as the other Columbia Gorge photos). Since getting my home server back online, I was going through the archives and found this one.

On the lack of new photos lately, I recently suffered the loss of both my home server and "darkroom", as well as my free time. Work has kept me plenty busy enough with computers that I hadn't until this weekend had the gumption to buy, install, wrestle, and invariably curse my way back to where my old server was. Thankfully, while the install didn't go as planned, I did end up managing to get my old root partition to simply (okay, that's a lie) boot up on an entirely new system. So, back in business. Now if I can only manage to find the time to take some pictures.

D70 • f/4 • 1/125 • ISO 640 • 50mm

A composite of statue man doing one of his patented moves. I'll be trying for a shot tomorrow too, but just in case, heres wishing everyone a Happy Holiday!

A special Christmas Eve rule breaker today, as I usually restrict width to 750px. To retain some of the detail on this one, I pushed it out to 900px.

This statue guy performs all the time downtown, standing perfectly still for long periods, occasionally breaking out some glass ball juggling trickery. He's very good.

11.19.05 • night crane (1)

D70 • f/4.5 • 2.5s • ISO 200

So I went and missed the first birthday of this site, which should have been November 6th. I started a new job this week, so I know now I will officially not have much time for lots of photography for a while. Expect posts here and there but not so frequently.

This was caught last night on the roof. Last week they constructed a very large crane across the street, which looked kinda cool at night. It took two other cranes, one small, the other medium, to construct the large crane. Interesting to watch.

Oh yeah, and Happy Birthday to my dad!

This image made me think of http://www.portlandground.com/archives/2006/06/sidewalk_front_yard_budda.php ! I just stumbled upon your site today and I'm really enjoying looking at your pictures and remembering "hey I've been there or hey I used to live there!". I lived in downtown Portland for two years before moving back to the midwest a few months ago. I miss Portland soooooooooooo much. :o( But I'm glad I can relive my memories through your pictures!

Very nice image of the canyon. I really like the sky and how the stream leads the eye through the frame. Nicely done.

It's been too long between visits to your blog, you have some great images. That's a very creative gardener and your capture is fantastic.

I really like this shot - there's a great contrast between the sharp light trails on the right, and the more mellow blurring on the left. well done

Not usually Rob, but I do take requests. And must admit that sometimes it takes me a while to get to them (since I have to reprocess them).

Wow! Very nice shot. You have some great pix here man!!! I am just wondering on this particular shot how you get the lights and no cars... I see the camera settings under the title but I'm not a photographer so it doesn't mean a whole lot to me. Freakin awesome!

Makes me want to bust out my old Cannon AE-1. And I would if it hadn't pissed me off so many times! (realizing that I really need to stick with the disposable click boxes!)

I always like to see pictures taken by other people, on the other side of the country, and know exactly where it was taken.

HA! I want that car! I've been looking for pictures all morning cuz I wanna paint my combi (in four years, I'll be out of school and old enough to drive a car so that's when I'll get one ....) just like that!

12.29.05 • 2:29pm • statue man #2kyle

He's been around for a few years I believe, but these are my first shots of him. You might be remembering someone else?

I'm not sure if he calls himself statue man, but others do I believe. I found an article about him versus the City of Portland, which you can read here.

12.29.05 • 11:36am • statue man #2the Robot Vegetable

This statue was there last year too, wasn't he? Seems like you had some pictures of him before.

Does he call himself Statue Man? I think of him as a robot man, but I've never seen him in action - he's usually just standing there when I go by.

12.28.05 • 6:15am • statue man #2Manual Exposure

This is an interesting composition. You've handled the silver body paint well, a tough material to photograph by itself, and the reflection captured in the performer's sunglasses has me asking what does he see? Wish there wasn't such a bright white diamond in the top middle of the frame from the crossing of the awnings--makes my eye go right to it.
