I've recently turned off comments for a variety of reasons, the biggest of which is that I haven't really had time to take many photos these days, and therefore get few comments. This means that largely, I just fight spam. You may still email me at the contact address if you wish.

Really nice macro. Love the monotone of this.

WOW.

How did you get such excellent tones? I'm really impressed.

I'm generally inclined not to like the single flower macro (even though, yes, I do it myself), except that you've made it so huge on the page which really makes it much more striking, and you've done an excellent job with the post-processing. I can't help but like this.

thanks luminouslens. The tones were the result of a new method of sepia toning that I learned from Gimpguru. Very very nifty trick where you use a layer mask that is the actual image, and then pull the curves such that the low/mid tones take on more toning than the highlights. This results in the whites being whiter, while the darks take on more toning. I've been really happy with these results compared to my color curves tone adjustments. Even if you don't use the Gimp, the general process would be the same in Photoshop, so give it a try!

Magnificent. I can't stop looking at it (especially with the black theme). I'd love to see a before and after shot just to get a feel for the changes that you made. Any chance of acquiring a larger version of this shot? It would make a lovely present for our lady friends...

Kyle, man. This is incredible. I'd have maybe framed it a little bit wider, to let more of the black frame the flower. But nonetheless, this is really a wonderful image.

You know, I agree about the framing, but if you look at the original, you can see the issue. It had to be this close to be centered.

It's funny, I've now failed twice trying to reprocess this image. Someone asked for a fullsized version of this image, but I rarely save them at that step in the process for posting them. I always figure I can do it again, and take my time, if someone really wants a nice one. But crap it if I can't make another version of this flower that looks similar to this one! Wish me luck!
